Das Gesellschaftliche Ding. Kunst, Architektur und Öffentlichkeit at Annenstrasse 53, warmly invites you to join us for a reading group. We will collectively read from and discuss Sylvia Wynter's essay, ‘On How We Mistook the Map for the Territory, and Re-Imprisoned Ourselves in Our Unbearable Wrongness of Being, of Désêtre: Black Studies Toward the Human Project'. You will find the text here.
Sylvia Wynter is a Jamaican writer and cultural theorist. Her works pull together insights from history, literature, science, and black studies, to explore race, the legacy of colonialism, and representations of humanness.

Its focus is on developing exhibition concepts, artistic, architectural and discursive work and establishing an exhibiting space, Annenstrasse 53. The association makes its activities explicitly open to the public and sees this as an important contribution to a lively and diverse cultural landscape in Graz and beyond.
The project Annenstrasse 53, run by Das Gesellschaftliche Ding. Kunst Architektur und Öffentlichkeit (formerly Sans Souci Collective), is part of the KUNSTRAUM STEIERMARK fellowship programme of Land Steiermark and supported by steirischer herbst.
